The word dip in the headline of course refers to the seven months of lower-than-expected game sales that the industry has been experiencing, and not to the concept of video games just finishing up a swim in the pool. That would be ridiculous, it’s December. It’s too cold to go swimming.
The industry as a whole has experienced an 8 percent increase in sales, compared to last year according to NPD. Video games took in $2.99 billion dollars in revenue during the month of November.
Much of this rise in sales is thanks to the massive successive of Call of Duty: Black Ops. It pretty much sold more than anything ever, selling 8.4 million units. Assassin’s Creed: Brotherhood and Just Dance 2 came up right behind Call of Duty: Black Ops in first and second place respectively, in regard to units sold.
The Kinect was there to lend a hand as well, giving overall peripheral sales a 69 percent boost.
Everyone can finally stop worrying about video games collapsing under the weight of the economy and disappearing. It looks like everything is going to be okay.
