This month marks the 25-year anniversary of the Metal Gear franchise, and creator Hideo Kojima took to the PlayStation Blog earlier today to reflect on the pioneering stealth series.
Kojima detailed the creative process behind each project in the franchise, including some tough times during the development of Metal Gear Solid. According to Kojima, the lack of creative control during the game’s creation resulted in “bitter memories.”
Nevertheless, Kojima also talked about tales of success and looked to the future with the Fox Engine. The development of this new engine involved the work of other studios in a rather unusual way.
“In order to develop the Fox Engine, I had to understand how things worked elsewhere, so for a year and a half I visited studios around the world, and since we are Japanese people we were able to see the way others worked and recognize that in many respects their methods were better than ours,” he explained.
The blog post ended with Kojima making an exciting announcement regarding the Fox Engine, saying “we are ready to show what it can do…on August 30th in Japan to be more specific.”
The fact that Kojima is mentioning the Fox Engine in relation to the Metal Gear franchise makes the possibility of Metal Gear Solid 5 seem quite likely. Gamers will know for sure in about a month.
