Quantic Dream, the development studio behind Heavy Rain and Indigo Prophecy, has reopened their motion-capture studio after two months of renovation. The studio now has 64 cameras, and can record voice performances, body and facial movement all at once. This will undoubtedly lead to even more realistic digital portrayals of changing diapers in video games.
Quantic Dream CEO Guillaume de Fondaumière is excited about the new technology saying, “Capturing actors’ complete performance in a single take with high fidelity is essential to render the highly realistic 3D characters people expect nowadays in high-definition games and movies, and that is precisely what our new studio can deliver on."
In-house motion capture studios are becoming increasingly important for any developer. Studios like Naughty Dog (Uncharted 2: Among Thieves) and Rocksteady (Batman: Arkham Asylum) both employ in-house motion capture studios, and the quality in all of their projects is apparent. This is nothing but good news for a developer like Quantic Dream, whose games rely heavily on animation and performance to deliver an emotional experience.
