Rock Band Blitz, the first entry in the influential Rock Band series since 2010’s Rock Band 3, gets an August 29th release date, as well as some more confirmed tracks.
All has been relatively quiet on the rhythm-game front since Rock Band and Guitar Hero ruled the lucrative roost two years ago, with the genre falling into something of a lull recently. Many have pointed out Activision’s aggressively frequent release schedule for their Guitar Hero games as a reason for the genre’s saturation and hush.
Despite the recent absence of the franchise on game store shelves, Harmonix has been working on a new entry to the Rock Band series, this time bringing an altered style of play to digital platforms – peripheral free. Rock Band Blitz will only feature two lanes per instrument, and will task players with keeping those instruments going by switching between them mid-song. Harmonix has used a similar style of play with their PSP release Rock Band Unplugged.
In addition to the August 29th release date, Harmonix has announced that the following songs will come with the game: Avenged Sevenfold’s “So Far Away”, Fun ft. Janelle Monáe’s “We Are Young”, Kool & The Gang’s “Jungle Boogie” and My Chemical Romance’s “Sing”.
Rock Band Blitz will be hitting XBLA and PSN on August 29th, and will bring with it new tracks, as well as the ability to play any other songs already stowed away on your console.
