Plenty of worthwhile indie titles have found success on Steam, and that number is sure to grow with the newly announced Steam Greenlight.
Greenlight is a system that puts the fate of indie releases in the hands of the Steam community. Potential players will vote on what games they believe should find a new home on Steam, though a set number of votes isn’t the determining factor. Valve clarifies that votes don’t “matter as much as relative interest in a game compared with other games in Steam Greenlight.”
Developers will be allowed to post games in either conceptual or playable stages. Specific requirements include a valid Steam account, a square branding image, one video presenting the game, four screenshots/images, a written description, and system requirements.
Steam Greenlight is set to launch at the end of August, and full details can be found on the program’s official page.
