Prey 2 is still alive and kicking, says Bethesda, but it won’t be released in 2012. In a short and sudden statement today, the publisher quickly dismissed rumors of the game’s cancellation, but also said development hasn’t “progressed satisfactorily” over the last year.
“Development of Prey 2 has not been cancelled but the game will not be released in 2012 as planned…Prey 2 has shown great promise and we regret disappointing our fans,” said Tracey Thompson, director of Global PR for Bethesda. “We have made a substantial investment in game development to deliver the experience fans want. We are determined only to release the AAA game that fans rightfully expect, and are unwilling to compromise our quality standards to meet a release schedule.”
Bethesda did not give a time frame for when Prey 2 can now be expected, only that it will not be 2012.
The game was a pleasant surprise to those of us at GamerNode who attend E3 2011: the impressive looking demo even earned itself a Best of E3 nomination last year. It would be a shame if that potential wasn’t met by a rushed release.
