GAME, Gamestation won’t stock future EA titles

European gamers won’t be able to purchase Mass Effect 3 next week from GAME or Gamestation stores, or any future EA titles for that matter, due to unsuccessful credit negotiations between GAME and EA. The retail giant has been facing financial troubles over the last few months: GAME’s stock is declining daily and recently struck a deal with lenders to help keep the company’s head above water.

Eurogamer received a copy of an internal memo sent out to all GAME/Gamestation stores explaining the bad news and how to give it to customers. The memo revealed that last week, GAME held a conference with publishers asking for their support and cooperation by reducing prices, agreeing to be paid later than normal, or accepting payment in the form of a supplier rebate (“cash” in the business world).

Apparently, none of the terms were good enough for EA. A source who spoke with The Telegraph said that GAME was “shocked” about EA’s decision, saying the retailer thought it had all of the major publisher’s support.

GAME told Eurogamer that anyone who pre-ordered may come in between March 1 and March 16 to receive £5 worth of Reward Points as a “gesture of goodwill.” If a deposit was made along with the pre-order, customers will receive a refund in the form of store credit.
