Following its recent launch in Europe, North America, and PAL territories, the PlayStation Vita has now sold 1.2 million units worldwide.
As of February 19, 578,812 of those units have been sold in Japan. Individual records for other countries have yet to be revealed, but global software sales have reached the two million mark, which accounts for both retail and PlayStation Network games.
SCE Group President and CEO Andrew House released a statement regarding the Vita’s success and what awaits the new handheld.
“The market has responded and there is clear demand for a mobile device capable of providing a revolutionary combination of rich gaming and social connectivity within a real world context,” he said. “To sustain momentum, we’re working closely with third-party developers and publishers to ensure the best games and franchises possible will be available on PS Vita, and our software line up for the remainder of 2012 will have something for everyone across the globe.”
So far the launch numbers look solid, but it should be interesting to see how the Vita fares for the remainder of the year.
