British research uses computer game to condition decision making

According to a recent press release from the Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council, a team of researchers at Queens University Belfast has created a game that conditions "better" decision making into its players.

Already at a prototype stage, the game has reportedly been tested on over 500 members of the general public and is available to play online.

In its rudimentary state the game is a simple point and click, question and answer affair. The game aims to explore whether individuals can be coached to make better decisions by improving their ability to recognise and make allowances for their biases. It also aims to condition the player to utilise basic logic and mathematics in their decision-making process thus allowing them to accurately estimate the probability of their choice’s success.

The team behind the game’s development have already hinted that they would like to see their research used by mainstream game developers. In particular they emphasised its suitability for games "with a strategy element".

Whether players will want such a mechanic included in what essentially is a form of entertainment is questionable. Share your thoughts in the comments section below.
