Former search-engine heavy, now slightly on the light end of middle-weight Yahoo, is set to install 20 72-inch touch-screen arcade units in targeted bus shelters across San Fransisco.
Titled the Yahoo Bus Stop Derby, the units will allow travellers to choose from four simple free-to-play games. All the games will contain both single and multiplayer options.
The multiplayer mode will allow users to compete with other players using one of the units at another bus shelter. Hoping to reignite the fire of competition and community spirit, the machines will track and update the players results giving an overall score for all of the unit’s users.
This will allow players to see how their local machine ranks compared to its competitors in rival areas. As a grand prize the community housing the machine with the highest score 10 weeks after launch will win a block party with OK Go.
Set to launch on January 28, Yahoo’s latest project adds to the already unstoppable social gaming trend that’s sweeping the globe.
