In a recent press release the UK games industry trading association TIGA praised the Scottish Government’s decision to help create 150 new jobs in the industry.
The move comes as a part of wider countermeasures against the expected double-dip in the economy and was announced by First Minister Jim Wallace earlier this month.
The new jobs are intended to be based at Dundee with mobile and social games developer Outplay Entertainments.
TIGA CEO Dr. Richard Wilson praised the move saying:
"We are delighted that the Scottish Government is showing its commitment to expanding the Scottish Games Industry. Scotland has created some of the UK’s most successful video game exports over the years and continues to play an important role in the success of the industry across the UK."
Having been home to the development teams behind the first Grand Theft Auto and Crackdown games, Scotland has traditionally accounted for a significant share of the UK games industry’s creative output. In recent years this has changed and now Scotland only houses around 10 percent of the UK’s game development studios.
