In an interview with SlashFilm yesterday, Uncharted film director David O. Russell had some words about his upcoming videogame movie, its fans and what can be expected.
Since the movie’s announcement with Russell attached to direct, the filmmaker has been hit by a hurricane of suggestions from fans on how to make the film and who to cast in it.
When asked about this, Russell laid down some words to hopefully ease the unnerved diehards.
"As far as I’m concerned, I’m very respectful as far as the core content and sprit of the game, but beyond that it’s my job as a filmmaker to make what I think is going to be an amazing movie," he said. "People have to trust that and let that go, I think."
Russell compared the fandom outcry he’s facing to that of Anne Rice’s "Interview with the Vampire". When that film was announced, fans were quick to throw out opinions, Russell said. And while he understands there aren’t many videogame movies "that stand up to time", he asks fans to trust him.
"I personally think it’s really cool when you see that someone like Darren Aronofsky is going to make an X-Men movie or to get someone such as myself to make this picture," he said. "You can be guaranteed that it’s going to be real, it’s going to be raw, it’s going to be intense, it’s going to be original, and it’s going to be propulsive. And those are all the things that I want when I go to watch a movie like that."
