King Kong Video Game Has Hidden Surprise

If you haven,t seen the movie “King Kong” yet, be forewarned that this news article contains spoiler material that will give away the ending of the movie. Ok, we told you so, so please don,t start crying when you realize that this spoiler ruined the movie for you. If you must, send all hate mail to our Editor-in-Chief. (Sometimes, it pays *not* to be at the top). [Editor: "You realize he’s reading this and docking your pay as we speak, right?"] Ok, now for the rest of you. You already know, (or know now) that our poor gargantuan simian gets his monkey butt kicked and takes a trip to that big banana plantation in the sky. The sad teary-eyed ending in the film, however, is not necessarily what you will get in the video game. Rejoice you blubbering fools, King Kong lives! Well, he,ll live only if you meet certain conditions in the game. You,ll have to do some serious monkey business by totaling up at least 250,000 points by replaying certain sections over and over and over. We didn,t say it was going to be easy. If, after an immense amount of sleep deprivation and lack of proper hygiene finally gets you to the magic number, you,ll be rewarded with the option of unlocking a “happy” ending. The game will give you the chance to help the King (not you, Elvis) to survive his adventura atop the the Empire State building. We won,t say how this is done, just so that there,ll be some suspense. There are also other tidbits that will be unlocked such as photos, movie art, and interviews. Director Peter Jackson, who spurned Electronic Arts in favor of Ubisoft for the tie-in game rights said, "I wanted the game to be able to take the audience a bit further than what the film could. And the final climax of the game gave us an opportunity to do something that the film could not do, which was to have an alternate ending – obviously everybody pretty much knows how King Kong ends." Jackson,s snub of EA was based upon his less than stellar working relationship with EA. Jackson indicated that EA was not open to his suggestions regarding the Lord of the Rings games. Evidently, Ubisoft learned from EA,s oversights. John Parkes of Ubisoft said, "Michel Ancel [the game producer] and Peter Jackson’s collaboration was strong from the very beginning to the very end, so much so, they created an alternate ending where players will experience memorable moments beyond the film." If you are the proverbial 800 pound gorilla, you pretty much go where ever you want to go. In this case, the 800 pound gorilla went to Ubisoft.
