Utah Takes Major Step in Passing Game Legislation

The Utah House passed a new bill that would make showing and selling mature video games to minors illegal. The bill must now go on to the Utah Senate in order to be passed into law. The House passed the bill with a demanding 56 to 8 vote, with 11 of the legislators abstaining from the bill’s vote. The bill was also supposed to include other forms of media such as movies and music, but the bill failed to pass through the House the in its original form. Now that the bill has been revised for video games, it has been passed easily. The bill was released to the Senate for review yesterday morning. If the new bill is passed, offenders are looking at a third-degree felony with maximum 2 week imprisonment and up to $300 in fines. It is considered a second-degree felony if convicted for a second time, which can lead to $5000 in fines and a guaranteed year in prison.
