Two top Nintendo of America executives have been promoted, as announced today in a press release from Nintendo. Current President Tatsumi Kimishima has been made chairman of the board and CEO, and former executive VP of Sales and Marketing, Reggie Fils-Aime, was promoted to president and COO.
The news comes following a media storm and din of publicity following Nintendo’s strong showing at E3 earlier this month. Fils-Aime has often been the face of Nintendo of America to gamers, due to his division’s many public statements and overall orchestration of the company’s message. Following the change of the then-code-named “Revolution” console to “Wii,” it was Fils-Aime who made several high-profile comments defending the name choice.
Satoru Iwata, president of Nintendo Co., Ltd., gave the following statement: "Around the world, Nintendo DS has been steadily drawing more people into the video game category. With the upcoming introduction of Wii, along with the strength of this new leadership team and strong executives already in place, Nintendo will continue to dramatically change the way consumers of all ages interact with their video game console on a daily basis."
