Final Fantasy XIII Gets Bigger

Square Enix has announced that they are going to be taking the Fabula Nova Crystallis project beyond the three separate titles announced at E3. President Yoichi Wada implied that more Final Fantasy XIII titles could be in the works yesterday at a business conference in Tokyo. So far Square Enix has publicized Final Fantasy XIII, Final Fantasy Versus XIII, and Final Fantasy Agito XIII. Together all three titles structure the Fabula Nova Crystallis project.

At the conference Mr. Wada showed a chart that noted the three titles in Fabula Nova Crystallis, plus three empty holes. The holes most likely represent the titles that Square Enix plan to develop in the future. Even though the chart was just for clarifying purposes, Mr. Wada made it clear that in addition to non-game related goods, the likelihood of further games are great.

Wada compared the mini Final Fantasy XIII series to Star Wars or Gundam, as a number of different creators gave their special touch to separate projects that all occurred in the same universe. In another illustration, Mr. Wada referred to Final Fantasy VII, citing that the Compilation of Final Fantasy VII series was completed 10 years after the original game was released. Just as Final Fantasy VII was the foundation of the Compilation of Final Fantasy VII series, Fabula Nova Crystallis will center around the main title; Final Fantasy XIII. The only distinction is that Final Fantasy XIII was developed with an awareness of multiple titles.

As successful as Final Fantasy VII was, the entire project cost Square Enix 50 billion yen. In contrast, the entire Final Fantasy XIII: Fabula Nova Crystallis project will have a price tag of 100 billion yen. Looks like there is a lot more Final Fantasy XIII to look forward to.
