The companies responsible for HDMI (High-Definition Multimedia Interface) for HDTVs, PCs, and DVD players have released a significant enhancement called HDMI 1.3. The new HDMI 1.3 features will allow the display of literally billions of colors with the addition of superb clarity and vividness. The HDMI 1.3 will double the bandwidth of present HDMI and adds support for Deep Color technology.
Sony has announced that its PS3 will adopt this technology, reinforcing Sony,s claim that the PS3 is more than just a game console. Ken Kutaragi, CEO of Sony Computer Entertainment said, “PlayStation 3 will be the most advanced computer platform for enjoying a wide range of entertainment content, including the latest games and HD movies, in the home. By introducing the next-generation HDMI 1.3 technology, with its high speed and deep color capabilities, PS3 will push the boundaries of audiovisual quality to the next level of more natural and smoother expression on the latest large flat panel displays.”
The ability of the PS3 to use HDMI 1.3 will make it an attractive buy to those who are seeking the best possible graphic-support available. While the price point of the PS3 is still of concern to many individuals, the move by Sony to market the PS3 as a high-end entertainment center will have an appeal to those who want the latest in HD technology.
