Square-Enix, long time supporter of Sony’s PlayStation line of consoles, says that it wants a more level playing field in the console market.
Square-Enix SVP Michihiro Sasaki told the Wall Street Journal, "We don’t want the PlayStation 3 to be the overwhelming loser, so we want to support them. But we don’t want them to be the overwhelming winner either, so we can’t support them too much."
The somewhat cryptic statement alludes to the fact that Sony has taken the lion,s share of titles produced by Square-Enix, such as the Final Fantasy, Dragon Quest, and Kingdom Hearts franchises. The comments made by Square are an indication that the company sees a need to diversify its content line among all game console manufacturers to increase its profit.
Square-Enix has already committed to several games for the Xbox 360 and Wii.
