Game Stores Scramble To Restock PS3s and Wiis

The PS3 and Wii have finally launched. Those who missed out buying either of the machines can look forward to a second chance to buy them, according to a GameStop investor conference call. GameStop top brass indicated that their stores have already been restocked with both machines and will continually be resupplied by the manufacturers every week as long as the consoles are available.

As far as the top titles for each console, Resistance: Fall of Man and Madden 07 were the best sellers for the PS3. The Wii scored with Red Steel (duh)and Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess (double duh) as its leaders. Interestingly enough, recent sales figures indicate that the software to hardware sales ratio, or “attach rate,” for the PS3 was actually less than one game per machine while the ration for the Wii was three games per machine.

Game industry observers speculate that the low game per PS3 ration is due to the enormous number of individuals who are snapping up Sony,s next gen machine solely for the purpose of reselling them at a profit. Currently, online auctions have PS3 game consoles averaging approximately $1100 dollars for the deluxe version of the unit. The normal retail price is $600. The Wii, on the other hand, is fetching an average price of $375 for the console plus one game. The retail price for the Wii is $250.
