Sega’s Virtua Tennis 3, the next installment of the popular tennis franchise originally released for its Dreamcast in 2000, will be released with support for 1080p–the highest HD resolution possible. Many fans of the game are excited to get the full HD treatment, as the feature will be available in both the PS3 and Xbox 360 versions of the game. But Sega has released information that online multiplayer will only be available on Microsoft’s Xbox Live, and will not be a part of the game on PS3.
In addition to Xbox Live multiplayer functionality, the Xbox 360 version will also offer an exclusive "VT: TV" mode, which allows gamers to watch other online matches.
George Peckham, Global Manager for third party publishing at Microsoft, lauded the exclusivity of VT3‘s online play for the 360. "We’re thrilled to be able to say that Virtua Tennis 3 will be coming to Xbox 360, showcasing an online experience with Xbox Live that you won’t find on any other systems and spectacular 1080p graphics."
The exclusion of online play for the PS3 was not explained by Sega, but it is certainly a blow to the Sony online community, which has been hard pressed to find many quality online titles for the new system.
