Enemy Territory: Quake Wars Heading to PS3 and 360

id Software and Splash Damage announced today that their upcoming team-based FPS Enemy Territory: Quake Wars–originally confirmed only for PC–will be heading to the PS3 and Xbox 360. It’s currently unconfirmed if all three versions will be hitting store shelves at the same time or if one version will debut first, but the PC version still carries a 2008 fiscal year release date–a period which runs from April 2007 to March 2008. Splash Damage is developing the PC version, while Nerve Software (Doom 3: Resurrection of Evil and the multiplayer component of Return to Castle Wolfenstein) will be handling the 360 port and Z-Axis (Dave Mirra Freestyle BMX series and X-Men: The Official Game) will be in charge of the PS3 port. id Software will supervise the entire project.

Enemy Territory: Quake Wars will feature two factions: the Global Defense Force and the Strogg. Classes within the GDF include the soldier, medic, engineer, field op (fire support specialist), and covert op (stealth). The Strogg classes include the aggressor, technician, constructor, oppressor, and infiltrator. Each faction will also have a wide array of vehicles–GDF has larger mechanized units, while Strogg has more technological and mobile units, as well as deployable turrets and missile launchers.

With a wide variety of online shooters headed to the 360–Unreal Tournament 3, Halo 3, GRAW 2, and the already-available Gears of War–and those to the PS3–UT3, GRAW 2, and Killzone–it’ll be quite a battlefield for Enemy Territory: Quake Wars to hold its own in the console shooter market.
