Plenty of people in North America own a Xbox 360, but that’s not the case everywhere. Microsoft’s console has never sold very well in Japan, and now things are looking particularly grim for the system over in that country.
It has been reported that multiple retailers are planning to phase out the 360. Geo, Japan’s largest specialist retailer, is one such example.
According to an electronics staff in Tokyo, the company is removing its 360 hardware and software. The remaining stock will be sold at a large discount.
Meanwhile, 360 consoles and games are frequently becoming bargain bin items at smaller specialist stores. One particular retailer is selling the Halo: Reach console bundle for just $130.
These financial woes also extend to the Kinect. The PlayStation Move easily outsold Microsoft’s new device, in large part because there aren’t very many existing 360 owners in Japan.
The Xbox 360 isn’t completely dead in Japan yet. Microsoft still has a chance to come up with some kind of plan to help revive the system in that country. But if that’s the case, a move has to be made soon.
