Atari is continuing to fall on hard times as it has announced plans to cutback its workers by 20 percent. The company also plans to cut 26 percent of administration jobs as well.
Atari President and CEO David Pierce said of the restructuring, "We expect that today’s reorganization will continue to reduce Atari’s general and administrative cost. These actions, though difficult, are a significant first step in reorganizing Atari and demonstrate our commitment to restoring shareholder value."
The game company’s profits have gone on an uncontrolled slide downward. Atari is struggling to keep its head above water even as executives from within its own ranks have criticized the company for failing to produce quality games. Whether the company can continue much longer on such shaky ground is doubtful. And without the killer apps it needs to boost itself from the mire, it’s going to be a long uphill battle for Atari to make its way back to a strong presense in the game industry.
