Time magazine asked its readers to submit their recommendations for Time’s Top 100 list of the most influential people in categories such as arts and entertainment, science, leaders, and other various fields. Among those nominated is a name that is highly familiar within the gaming world — Nintendo’s Shigeru Miyamoto, the father of Mario, Zelda, and Donkey Kong.
After the polls closed, Miyamoto ranked number 9 in a filed crammed with high profile names such as J.K. Rowling (#6), Bill Clinton (#38), Bill Gates (#35), and Steve Jobs (#11).
The Times described Miyamoto in a short bio:
"PRO: Most successful game designer, creator of Super Mario, Donkey Kong and The Legend of Zelda, whose new platform, the Wii, is currently the top-selling game console.
CON: His perfectionist tendencies often result in games being significantly delayed and, despite the Wii’s gameplay innovation, its graphics are far behind the competition."
We’d argue the point about the Wii’s graphics though; it wasn’t supposed to be a high powered graphics machine. Well, so much for in-depth research at Time.
