New H.P. Lovecraft-inspired game announced

lovecraftZoetrope Interactive has announced that Darkness Within: In Pursuit of Loath Nolder, a PC adventure game, is now in development at the upstart studio. It is inspired by the writing of H.P. Lovecraft, and is scheduled for release later this year.

Lovecraft is arguably one of the best horror authors of the twentieth century, and the inspiration for a number of film adaptations, as well as games such as 2005’s Call of Cthulhu: Dark Corners of the Earth for PC and Xbox.

Darkness Within casts players as Howard E. Loreid, a police detective on the case of Clark Field’s murder. As expected in a Lovecraftian tale, Field was deeply involved with the occult, which leads Loreid on a jolly little advenure.

The main suspect in the case is a mysterious character named Loath Nolder, who is undoubtedly just as spooky as Field’s hobbies.

According to Zoetrope president Galip Kartoglu, "Darkness Within takes players to an eerie and disturbing corner of the human psyche exploring nightmares, the occult, and a frightening psychological world. The game is filled with terrifying vistas and a compelling plot that revolves around a protagonist-investigator in classic Lovecraftian style."
