I remember watching Nickelodeon as a kid, and I have to admit that it wasn’t so terrible for me back then.
Now, the Viacom-owned network is jumping into the casual cames market with a 100 million dollar campaign that will run its course over the next two years (I’m sure more money will be dumped in after that).
Another Viacom subsidiary, MTV, has already lept headlong into the games industry, recently buying up Rock Band developer Harmonix, as well as online gaming platform Xfire, and Gametrailers.com.
Cyma Zarghami, president of MTV Networks-owned Nickelodeon Kids and Family Group had this to say:
"Across all of MTVN’s online sites, gaming is an important original genre and we are committed to delivering fresh content to our audiences in all of our demos. Particularly in the kids’ space, with more than 86% of kids 8 to 14 gaming online, we see great momentum for online casual gaming. This investment will not only benefit our audiences, but also our marketing and distribution partners."
The two-year period in question will cover mostly 2008 and 2009, so expect a slew of casual, kid-friendly games rolling out somewhere in that window of time.
