David Jaffe and Scott Campbell form "Eat, Sleep, Play"

jaffeThere’s no two ways about it: David Jaffe is a big deal. He’s responsible for creating some big name franchises for Sony, such as Twisted Metal (which was developed by Incognito) and God of War that have proven to be incredibly successful.

However, Jaffe earlier this week made a post on his blog stating that he is making a big career move. Prior to that, rumors had been floating around that the outspoken developer was forming his own studio without Sony’s backing.

Is that the truth? Well, kinda sorta.

Today, SCEA announced that it has formed a "multi-year, multi-title deal" with Eat, Sleep, Play, Jaffe’s brand new development studio based in Utah to develop games exclusively for PSN.

Working hand in hand with Scott Campbell (founder of Incognito), the co-founder their new studio, the dynamic duo will initially be responsible for adding Twisted Metal: Head On to the PlayStation 2 library. The game won’t just be a straight up port of PSP version either, as it will come packaged with a documentary based on the hit series in addition to a few lost levels from the never released Twisted Metal: Black Part II.

Overall, this seems like a great opportunity for Jaffe. As he has stated in the past, Sony has been incredibly flexible in its working relationship with him and even though he has gone off to do his own thing, maintaining that bond between them is benefiting both companies in a big way. Eat, Sleep, Play will be in a financially sound position for a start up company as a result from the deal while Sony can be reliant on a developer that’s capable of delivering quality titles on their platform.
