In a lawsuit involving the victim of the infamous console bricking Xbox 360 Fall ‘06 Dashboard Update, Kevin Ray, and the very corporation (Microsoft) that unintentionally rendered the plaintiff’s system useless, the conclusion of the case has resulted in its dismissal, as both parties have settled under non-disclosed terms.
The suit was filed last November prior to the announcement made by Microsoft that the warranty for all adopters of their console would be extended by a full year.
Soon after that pleasing information was passed onto all of the heartbroken Xbox 360 owners, Ray contacted Microsoft and received a repair for his console free of charge.
Upon receiving his patched up console, the plaintiff no longer possessed any complaints in regards to his now working white box.
However, Microsoft isn’t quite done with nervously twiddling its thumbs in court room just yet. Another well known hardware issue such as disc scratching has caused several unhappy consumers to file suits over that particular issue against the company.
So, what exactly is the lesson here, folks? Being the first to place your console on the market doesn’t always come easy, as certain aspects (such as the functionality of the console) aren’t always perfect as they should be when the initial manufactured wave of systems are in the homes of millions with the first few weeks of launch.
It may not be all that safe to "Jump In" as you’re lead to believe.
