Just when I thought I was out…they pull me back in. I was pretty sure that the "Xbox 360 Hard Drive required" fiasco was all over with once Microsoft said concretely, "every game will work with every Xbox 360 system."
However, new fuel has been added to the fire as a lone Target employee has brought us evidence that perhaps the HDD will be required after all. See that blurry image on the left? That is a picture taken of a Target company PDA showing the status of the Core model of the Xbox 360.
Interestingly enough, it doesn’t list the price at $279.99 as previous announcements have led us to believe it would be. Instead, it lists it as $299.99 and "Discontinued." I fully believe Microsoft when they say that the price will drop, but this brings to mind the old switcheroo that Sony pulled at E3. They lower the price of their lowest model so that it sells quicker and they never reinforce those units, clearing the way for the newer model.
If you ask me, I’d say the Core model is on it’s way out the door to make room for the Elite.
