The console war is finally heating up for round 1, the first holiday season where all three consoles have an established lineup of games, and a solid installed base.
It’s only August and already the gloves are ready to come off as loyal fans of all three camps are ready and raring to find any fault possible with the competition’s hardware.
When Grand Theft Auto 4 was announced as having been delayed last week, rumor had it that the delay was caused by the Core Xbox 360’s lack of a hard drive.
Soon after, the speculation arose that it was due to difficulties in developing such a massive game on the Playstation 3 infrastructure. Today industry analyst Michael Pachter sounds off with his own opinion.
"We think it is likely that the Rockstar team had difficulty in building an exceptionally complicated game for the PS3, and failed to recognize how far away from completion the game truly was until recently," said Pachter. "We think it is also likely that Take-Two had a contractual commitment to Sony that it would not favor competitor Microsoft by launching the Xbox 360 version of GTA IV prior to launching the PS3 version, and believe that any delay of the PS3 version necessitated a delay of the Xbox 360 version,"
What do you guys think? Is the PS3 holding back the Xbox 360 like your grandmother in a three-legged race? Or is the real truth something none of us have considered yet?
