Last week we ran a story that proved that Epic was considering adding PC-PS3 crossplatform play to the PS3 version of Unreal Tournament 3. Now those suggestions have become confirmations as Epic has inked a contract with Gamespy to provide cross-platform tools for all who license the Unreal Engine 3 for PS3 development.
Seeing as how everybody and their parent company licenses the Unreal Engine these days, this could provide a much needed leg up to the Playstation Network which has been struggling to catch up to Microsoft’s Xbox Live service.
Whereas cross-platform play on a Microsoft console is sort of a nice touch once in a while, this has the potential to make it a consistent staple of the PSN.
More and more Microsoft’s decision to be a dick to Epic during the development of Gears of War is looking to be a terrible one.
Note: the PS3 supports a mouse and keyboard set up, so PC gamers won’t have an advantage on controls.
