Sony Computer Entertainment (SCE) announced today they’ve acquired MotorStorm developer Evolution Studios and its subsidiary Bigbig Studios.
While Evolution Studios put itself on the map with the platinum-selling PS3 game MotorStorm, which was released in March 2007, they’ve worked with SCE since 1999 with the World Rally Championship series for the PS2.
Evolution Studios is currently working on MotorStorm 2 for the PS3, scheduled for release sometime in 2008, along with continual updates and additions to the original MotorStorm via the PlayStation Network.
Bigbig Studios developed Pursuit Force for the PSP back in March 2006, which has sold over 800,000 copies worldwide. The developer is currently working on the second game in the series titled Pursuit Force: Extreme Justice, which will be released this October for PSP and early 2008 for PS2.
Phil Harrison, President of SCE Worldwide Studios, said, "Our strategy is to create the best games by working with the best talent and Evolution and Bigbig are world-class additions to our team. The incredible people in these studios further extend the depth and skill of the industry’s largest platform-exclusive development resource."
Financial earnings weren’t disclosed as of this writing. Hey, MotorStorm wasn’t a bad game, so it’s good to see Evolution Studios getting the praise they deserve and the news of its full acquisition by a mega console/games producer.
