There was a lot of great writing going on in videogames last year. Gamers were given the gifts of Bioshock, The Orange Box, Mass Effect, etc. – and we were happy. When the Writer’s Guild of America decided to honor the best writing in videogames, is was a sure thing that one of these games would win the award, right?
Wrong.
The winner of the inaugural WGA award has been announced, and it is Dead Head Fred, the PSP action game fron D3Publisher and Vicious Cycle. The games mentioned earlier weren’t even nominated.
Said Eric Peterson, president and CEO of Vicious Cycle:
"Being nominated along with so many top caliber writers for the first WGA Video Game Writing Award was an honor in itself, so it’s fantastic that we won. Dead Head Fred was something we had a lot of fun with and we are glad that players and fans are enjoying the game as much as we do."
Too bad nominees had to be members of the WGA’s New Media Writers Caucus in order to be included in this private club -like event, or else the competition would have been just a tad stiffer.
