The Korean release of an 80GB Playstation 3 model has been confirmed. A Sony representative has gone on record stating that the unit will indeed launch on June 16 at a retail cost of KWR 518,000 (557 USD). The 80GB model will serve to replace both the 20GB and 60GB models there; those two will not be released at all.
As for other territories, Sony has no plans "at this moment in time" to release the high-capacity model – at least not in Europe. As for the United States, no definitive word has been given.
So for now, the 80GB PS3 will be exclusive to Korea, but I’m sure it’s only a matter of time (and a matter of clearing out the 60GB and 20GB units) before we see it elsewhere. Perhaps the holiday season, maybe?
