Today, the 7rh annual World Cyber Games began at Qwest Field in Seattle. I knew the Seahawks weren’t a complete waste of space. The World Cyber Games has become the Olympics of gaming, bringing together over 700 players from 74 countries to virtually mame each other for supremecy.
Players will be competing in 12 different game titles (voted on by fans and sponsors) including Starcraft: Brood War, Counter Strike, and Gears of War. Players are competing for national pride, as well as $500,000 in cash prizes.
The team to beat (as always) is Korea, who is projected to be the most dominant team all round. They treat gaming as we would treat sports, filling stadiums to watch live Starcraft tournaments. Pretty hardcore if you ask me. Behind them are the beer guzzling Germans in 2nd, and the up and coming Americans in 3rd.
American representatives are coming into the event with something to prove. Come to think about it, so will the Europeans.
Do you hear that? USA. UK. USA. UK!
